ACMA states that the Interactive Gambling Act makes it illegal for providers to offer some online services to people in Australia. Its list of banned services includes online casinos.

What ACMA’s guidance says

The Interactive Gambling Act covers gambling through websites, apps and telephones. ACMA’s current page says banned services include online casinos, in-play sports betting, sports betting services without an Australian licence and betting on lottery outcomes. It also says banned services must not be advertised in Australia and must not promote or offer credit for online betting.

This is a provider and advertising framework. It should not be simplified into a confident personal legal opinion about every reader. The relevant decision for this project is narrower: a publisher should not turn a prohibited online casino service into an Australian deposit funnel.

Foreign licences do not replace it

A foreign licence can establish that an entity is regulated in another territory. It may supply a paper trail, rules and a complaint channel. It cannot create an Australian online casino licence or contradict ACMA’s product classification. “Licensed” must always be completed with “by whom, for what product, in which territory and on which domain?”

Blocked sites and mirrors

ACMA can ask internet providers to block sites involved in serious breaches, including online casinos offered to Australians and ads for prohibited services. Domain lists change. A working mirror, VPN instruction or accessible cashier therefore proves technical access—not legality or suitability. This site does not test operator mirrors.

Changes passed in 2026

ACMA’s page, last updated 21 August 2026, records reforms passed by Parliament on 19 August 2026. The listed changes include gambling-ad restrictions, a global opt-out register, limits on direct marketing of inducements to certain people, a ban on commissions to staff or affiliates based on customer activity, and stronger enforcement powers. ACMA says most reforms commence on 1 January 2027.

BetStop applies to Australian-licensed online and phone wagering providers; it should not be misrepresented as a universal block for offshore online casinos.
